Welcome to an exciting first broadcast weekend for the glorious month of September. CFYT marches into the autumnal season with some excellent community programming and a keen eye for avoiding winter doldrums with the help of some hot jams. CFYT is still reeling from an exciting week of Dawson Idol action! Once again, big congrats to all the winners and competitors and many, many thanks to all the businesses, volunteers, and supporters who made the event such a rip-roaring success with special props to  Duncan, Abbey and everyone at the Westminster Hotel for giving us a place to rock and/or roll!

In other exciting new-stuff news, we also have brand new CFYT Tshirts available at the Station for just $20. Important programming note at CFYT Radio– we will not be doing our regular broadcast next weekend, July 15-18th, as our resources will be used instead to do a televised broadcast of the the Dawson City Music Festival, one of the most exciting times of the year in the Yukon. During the weekend there will be several special broadcasts (like John’s interview with DCMF 2010 performer Fred Penner next Friday, July 16th at 2:30 pm!) so keep your eye on the website for announcements and details.

We will return with our regular schedule on July 22nd, and I’m sure we will have much to report after a busy weekend away!

CFYT Radio’s Dawson Idol competition wrapped up (after 2 raucous and talented showings) last night and nothing compared 2 Saskatoon/Victoria’s Tessa Kautzman, who took the top prize from the judges. In second place Aubyn O’Grady and Matt Sarty were boss and fly with moves to match, and Dawson classic Craig “Chedda” took third place prize for his jammin’ rock stylings.

Hosts Jon Seacrestrander (Monday) and Reu-Ben Mulroney did a great job setting the stage and the “honourable” judges Ben Shore, Andy Roebuck, and Sam Coxwell were a tough but fair trio of sass. The sisters Fraser made some awesome decorative jazz to get things festive, and Dylan, Ian, Rachelle, Morgan, and Blake (and probably others too!) sold votes and/or 50/50 tickets as though they were hotcakes.

We had great support from our community and the fundraiser was a big success for CFYT! Thanks to all who came out and performed, voted, cheered, rocked, rolled, etc. A major big thanks to Abbey & Duncan and everyone at the Westminster Hotel. Our gracious hosts not only donated their amazing venue and services to our event, but also gave us a big ol’ donation at the event too! Wow! Good times had by all, new tshirts worn by many (more available at the Station and more to come soon), and the beautiful music of summer time.

Thanks everyone. You’re all Dawson Idylls to me.
